Boho Boy Bedroom Makeover

In a home full of girls, I really wanted to create a space for my son that he felt like was his own! My son is 3 years old, ALMOST four, so this is the first time I have really got to decorate and set his room up as a "big boy" in a "big boy bed". When figuring out which room to use, I voted for the bigger room of the "kid rooms" with the main reason being, he's a boy, so more space to be wild, do flips and jump around.
As far as design goes I knew I wanted modern boho vibes. In order to accomplish that feel, I knew I needed to choose some statement pieces that scream exactly that. The hanging rattan swing was something we already had and I felt as if it would be perfect in his room. Next was the bed,we had a queen size mattress in his room but I really wanted to transition to a twin for more of a kid type feel. This would also create more play space!
Rugs, rugs, rugs. I LOVE RUGS. They really help center a space and speak large volumes of the "style you're going for." I chose to layer rugs in here for comfort since we will be playing on the floor. The jute rug underneath helps bring in the boho and the rug on top is a perfect rug to set the tone of modern boho!
I really wanted a rattan or more boho style type of bed. (I also love some good ol' unique, one of a kind pieces.) I searched and searched for a bed but everything I could find was out of my price range. *spoiler alert* FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE is your friend. Im going to be creating some content teaching you how to best use marketplace!*
So i'm sorry friends there is no link to the headboards but thats what makes it special! You can always search for similar items! When I found these head boards my heart dropped! I immediately offered on them and drove 30 minutes away at 9pm to make sure they would be mine!
So with the bed and the swing I had officially accomplished boho vibes now it was time to bring in some clean and modern elements. For toy storage, I love the ikea kallax system. probably beccause i also really love baskets, so its a win win. The white simple squares are just so pretty and you can really get the contrast going with the different baskets you use.
Above the shelf I added a Gathre map for a clean and simple statement piece. Followed by some faux plants on top of the shelves.
A few little prints on the walls really help pinpoint the color scheme your going for. As for me, the scripture adds meaning and intentionality to the photos I am hanging on the wall.
So for a little design recap, the rug, swing, bed and shelf were all my statement pieces that I started with and then worked around by then adding in the little details. Prints, wall decor, throw blanket, and pillows are really great tools to use to bring in the colors that you really want to pop in the room. My colors were terracotta/rust and yellow mixed with neutrals.
I am so pleased with how this room turned out and I hope you love it and are inspired too! Below you can find the links to items used in his room. The jute rug and bedframe were marketplace finds so I will be linking similar items.
